In a perfect world, all stories would have an even, 50/50 split among the sexes. TL;DR: Except the rare case where gender actually matters to your story, keep your casts at a 50/50 sex split, and defy gender expectations, you might just stumble into an even better character. I give majority-female casts a little bit of slack, because at least they have the "balance out the much more popular majority-male casts" motive, but even then, they tend to fail in some other vital way. If you want a world without gender norms, no one is going to stop you, and in a word where gender is becoming more and more fluid every day, it's probably for the best. So, if we are designing for the function of sex, what do we want to include or remove? So, they picked the top 40 freshmen heroes to join UA, in a society that is implied to have a few generations of quirks under it, and only 35% of the selected students are female?
